Tips to reduce shedding in dogs
Whether you have a Labrador or a Pekinese, a Rottweiler or a Pug, odds are high that you have struggled to find methods to reduce shedding. Most dog owners try several techniques to reduce shedding, attempting the usage of various products, procedures, and practices to make living with man’s best friend a little less hairy.
The most widely accepted and best form of reducing shedding is remembering to brush your dog. Brushing every day is best, though short hair breeds can be brushed every other day with fine results. A regular dog brush is acceptable, but you should also consider purchasing a tool that is made specifically for de-shedding. These items are generally made with small blades that pick up loose hair from dogs’ undercoats. Though using a de-shedding brush is the best form of reducing shedding, even a regular, daily brushing will work wonders to remove unwanted shedding and will give your pet the added benefit of having a shiny, healthy looking coat.
Other tools besides brushes are available to remove loose hair. Purchasing a hair remover such as a hair roller or a other, similar device quickly removes dead and damaged hair from your dog. These types of tools serve well for those who are short on time or who want an item that can do double duty: pet hair rollers can also remove dog hair from surfaces such as clothing and furniture, whereas brushes cannot.
Though shedding is a natural process, and old hair must be relinquished, another common reason for shedding is broken hairs, caused by unhealthy skin. One way to combat this is by providing pets with a well formed diet, one that includes fatty acids that are essential to a healthy coat. Vitamin supplements can be purchased to provide dogs with these acids, but they can also be found in treats or in products that can be added to the pet’s regular food.
Another way to battle unhealthy skin and hair is with shedding control shampoos and conditioners. These shampoos come in a variety of styles and scents, but generally are made of aloe vera gel, vitamin E, and fatty acids; the same ingredients one might find in a dandruff care shampoo for a person. When trying a new shampoo on your dog, make sure to read the label carefully to find out how long the shampoo should soak into the coat before being rinsed, and how often the product manufacturer suggests shampooing your pet. Some may suggest shampooing once a week while others may suggest far less often.
A sudden onslaught of shedding in an animal could be a sign of a serious illness and something that no amount of dog grooming tips can help. If you suspect that your dog is shedding more than he or she historically has, or if you believe the shedding is abnormal, schedule an appointment with a veterinarian. You may find that your pet has contracted a skin infection or other disease that has contributed to or caused the excessive hair loss. You may also consider any other changes that may have appeared in the home prior to the excessive shedding. A new chemical in use, such as a new detergent or a recent carpet shampooing, can cause an allergic reaction in your pet that could lead to more shedding. A momentous change, such as a new pet or a move can cause stress that could also contribute to excess hair loss. You should, of course, always keep your animal’s health records updated and should attend yearly checkups with your dog. Keeping your pet healthy is paramount to reducing the amount of unwanted hair he or she leaves lying around.

Hi,
I’ve worked at Genacol in customer service and one tip that I can give is to give Genacol to your pet. It helps with shedding as for joint and muscle pain. Genacol Is avalable in Canada, in the US but also in more than 15 countrys. If you’re sceptica, try it for a month and you will see. There is no known side effects and my dog and 4 cats love it!
Just trying to pass on the info. Have a nice day!
