SPCA Rescues 75 Animals from Alvin Home
More than 100 animals taken from an Alvin property on Thursday night are waking up happy at the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Spokeswoman Meera Nandlal says the animals were brought to the SPCA Houston after being rescued from deplorable conditions.
SPCA Houston workers assisted the Alvin Police Department in removing dogs, guinea pigs and miniature horses from the property. Nandlal says most of the animals were dogs including daschunds, American bull dogs, chihuahuas and pomeranians. many of the animals were found crammed together in small cages on top of stacks of newspaper that head been soaked with urine and feces, said Nandlal.
There is also some question as to whether or not all of them were properly provided food and water. Nandlal says one of the more disturbing findings was that of two dead and decomposing puppies found on top of one of the crates. She added that the owners were apparently breeding the dogs for sale.
Police did not say if any charges have been filed. The animals were examined on Friday morning to evaluate their conditions. Nandlal says within nine days there will be a court hearing to determine custody of the animals.
