If you’re looking for an affectionate dog, what type of breed comes to mind? Not all breeds are affectionate, nor are individuals within a breed necessarily affectionate. Dogs, like people, each have their own personalities.

However, there are some dog breeds that tend to produce more affectionate dogs. So, if you’re looking for a very loving dog because you like companionship and to cuddle, there are some breeds that may appeal to you.

The Labrador Retriever, like the Golden Retriever, has a very loving disposition. They also enjoy playing games like fetch and frisbee. of course, they can also be big couch potatoes, and can tend to put on weight if they’re not encouraged to be active. overall, they are an excellent choice for a family pet, if you are looking for a big dog.

The Golden Retriever is well known for its easy-going nature. Many parents choose Goldens as pets, particularly if they have children. Goldens are usually gentle and quite affectionate. They are actually tied with Labrador Retrievers in terms of affection and playfulness. Goldens, which were bred to retrieve, are also very intelligent.

The Japanese Chin loves to play! They will appreciate balls and toys and when you’ve tired them out with games, they will plop happily into your lap for some loving one-on-one time.

Irish Setters are high on the list of affectionate dogs, but they are fond of running and need an outlet for their need to exercise. They, like Goldens and Labs, are large dogs, so if you live in an apartment, this may not be the dog for you.

The Bichon Frise is a small, cuddly dog that enjoys companionship. They are well suited to life in a small home or apartment. They have a white coat that requires regular grooming, so figure the expense of grooming into the cost of maintaining this breed.

The Havanese, or Habanero, as the Cubans call it, is a long-haired, small breed dog. It enjoys being the center of attention. as with the Bichon, this breed will require grooming. It can be vocal, so if you like your quiet, you may want to choose another breed.

The Springer Spaniel is an enthusiastic, loving breed. They do require exercise, so as not to become too eager, but they are a playful and pleasant breed.

Brittany Spaniels were bred to be hunting dogs, but hunters found them to make excellent companions at home. They are inquisitive, active, and good-natured. as with any working breed, Brittanys require exercise and outdoor time.

The Vizla, while quite affectionate, is extremely energetic, and requires a great deal of exercise. A lack of activity may translate into destructive behavior, but the Vizla is intelligent and easy to train.

Papillons are small, perky, inquisitive dogs. They want to be close to their loved ones at all times. They are possessive and sometimes a little protective, and can be vocal. unlike the Bichon and Havanese, they require minimal grooming.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are gentle souls. They aim to please and will seek you out for affection. A smaller breed, they have become very popular with individuals who want a lap dog.
