As there is growing concern over our environment, and the depletion of its quality, there is an element that is often forgotten in the latest trend to “go green:” our pets.

While we may make the decision to go green, taking note of our bad habits, and focusing our attention on what we can personally do to offset any problems, we often forget about our pets. While we are perfectly capable of adapting our lifestyle to a more environmentally conscious way of life, our pets cannot make these same changes without our help. By simply paying more attention to the way we take care of our pets and carefully choosing the things we buy for their care or pleasure, a great deal of headway can be made in teaming with our pets to help our environment and slow down the global warming process.

While many may find themselves at a loss concerning “green pet care,” and don’t know where to start. Here are some good ideas to illustrate to you the many options that exist out there in the marketplace that promote green pet care – many of them are right under your nose, or are available online.

There is a wide array of options concerning the purchasing of products that make your pet both comfortable and environmentally conscious at the same time. Pet Toys

Amazon.com and other green pet websites like the ones mentioned above also have a good selection of eco-friendly pet toys. West Paw Design has doggie frisbees, called Ziscs, which are made out non-toxic materials which are both safe for your dog’s mouth and your dog’s health. When your dog chews it up too much to the point it is rendered unusable, simply send it back to the company, and they will recycle it to new condition and ship it back to you. Amazon.com has some eco-friendly dog plush bones that are made out of hemp in several different sizes and a nice selection of colors. Complete with a sqeaker inside, these chew toys can withstand even the sharpest of teeth – from a chihuahua to a Great Dane.

In regards to cats, Only Natural Pets also has little eco-friendly mice, similar in construction to the dog bones. They come in a canister of 48 mice and are 5 inches long with extra long tails – perfect for bobbing it around and teasing your feline friend.

There are also eco-friendly mouse teasers for the cats as well. You know, the pole attached to a toy at the end that you use to irritate your cat because he/she can never get it? It is made from all natural wood and one of the eco-friendly mice mentioned before.

Eco friendly cat scratching posts are another option which are actually quite unique. Although they may look like a piece of living room furniture, they are actually made of 100% corrugated cardboard and painted with a non-toxic coating. They keep your cat off of the furniture and keep your cat destroying this unique cardboard construction all day long.

Dog and Cat Treats

While it is well known that the best treats you give your cat are ones that you make yourself, so long as you adhere to your pet’s particular diet, there are many “green” dog treat options for you.

These are just a few things I found after performing a simple google search on the term, “green pet care.” With new products popping up on the market everyday, I’m sure you will find more by performing the same search. As you may already know, some of the items I mentioned can be used also for ferrets, pot-belly pigs, and rabbits.
